Dogs are complex beings with their own internal world and decision making capabilities

Using my relational framework we will critically engage with what it means to be in kinship with dogs. We will focus on the emotional state of your dog, and treat unwanted behaviours as symptomatic of either nervous system dysregulation or a need to strengthen communication between you. I take a trauma-informed approach to working with dogs that express "reactive" behaviours. I incorporate bodywork practices that support the development of a regulated nervous system in order to alleviate stress and anxiety and achieve behavioural outcomes.

You will learn to apply my four training principles - attunement, curiosity, autonomy, and joy - to understand the role you play in creating the right conditions for your dog to thrive. When we frame training as a relational praxis built on trust, respect, and consistent boundary setting, we unlock the transformative potential of interspecies kinship.

Finding Paws: Calming Anxious or ‘Reactive’ Dogs £400

This four-session, foundational course offers caretakers a trauma-informed framework for supporting nervous, anxious, or ‘reactive’ dogs.

You will learn about your dog’s nervous system and how unwanted behaviours are often symptoms of dysregulation. We will work together to identify your dog’s triggers, behaviours, and body language. You will learn a suite of tools to manage your dog’s emotional state. When you embrace these practices, your dog can feel comfortable in their body, their relationships, and their environment.

Once a strong baseline of regulation is in place, you can begin to work on your dog’s reaction to specific triggers.

Session 1: Trauma-Informed Behaviour Coaching
Session 2: Bodywork
Session 3: Therapeutic Enrichment
Session 4: Decompression Walk

You will receive a programme outline and four detailed lesson plans to help you apply the programme at home.

Change of Pace: Balanced Lead Walking £325

Issues with lead walking, especially pulling, can be mentally frustrating and physically demanding on both humans and dogs. Urban environments are full of distractions and potential triggers, like the scent of other dogs, foxes, and cats, loud noises, construction, cars, cyclists, and children running and playing. Lead walking can therefore be a very overstimulating experience for dogs, which decreases their focus and contributes to pulling, ultimately bringing themselves and you out of balance.

Over three sessions you will learn practical skills to bring your dog (and you!) into balance while on lead. I will coach you on how to read your dog’s body language and behaviours and apply techniques to manage over-excitability, anxiety, stress, or on-lead ‘reactivity’. You will understand how to choose the right equipment that will help you influence movement without coercion. With the right approach, skills, and equipment you and your dog will feel comfortable and confident together, making lead walking an enjoyable, collaborative experience.

Principles

Attunement

Emotional attunement is an intentional practice of recognising, understanding, and engaging with the emotional state of another being. When we connect with our dogs on an emotional or energetic level, we help them feel safe and connected. This supports the regulation of their nervous system and gives them the space to make behavioural choices.

Curiosity

If attunement is the bridge between us and our dogs, then curiosity is the spirit in which we inquire about who is on the other side and what they are trying to tell us. When we remain curious about our dog’s expressions, preferences, fears, and physical and emotional state we learn what they need to support their regulation.

Autonomy

How do we respect dogs’ agency and bodily autonomy while keeping them safe and prioritising harm reduction in our communities? To understand our responsibility as dog carers we must engage with the power dynamic between us. When we prioritise communication and consent we can reach a mutual understanding of how to exist together.

Joy

When we learn how to be present and connected with dogs, and take responsibility for our role in a shared dynamic, we ‘harness our collective capacities to do and feel more’. When we do this, we are creating joyful interspecies communities.
